It should be one of the greatest experiences of your life - moving out of home for the first time and standing on your own two feet at university.

Most students will spend their first year living in halls of residence attached to the university before moving on to rented accommodation, usually house-shares with friends.

But trading standards officers say there is a rising level of property scams aimed at students.

Student accommodation specialist The Mansion Group has issued clear guidelines to help both students and parents or guardians.
